Pilot project at Rae Bareli coach factory to usher ‘Industry 4.0’

A pilot project for ushering ‘Industry 4.0’ — a concept about automation, interconnectivity and data exchange to boost productivity — has been launched for implementation at the Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.

  • The Railway Ministry and the Department of Science and Technology have joined hands with IIT-Kanpur for taking up the unique project.

7th World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF) 2019 held in Mumbai, Maharashtra

7th World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF) 2019 was held in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The theme of (WHEF) 2019 “Prosperous Society: Stronger Society” to bring together financially successful members in Hindu society such as traders, bankers, technocrats, investors, industrialists to share business knowledge, expertise and resources with their fellow brethren.

  • The World Hindu Economic Forum has earlier been organised in London, Chicago, Losa Angeles, Hong Kong, and Nairobi.

Amritsar’s famous ‘Langur Mela’ begins

Starting with the celebrations of Navratri, a 10-day ‘Langur Mela’ commenced in Punjab’s Amritsar which will be concluded on the next of Dussehra.

  • It is believed that parents wish for a child and vow to dress them as ‘langurs’ (baboon) once their wish is granted.
  • Pilgrims in large numbers throng to the Bada Hanuman temple to offer prayers situated in the Durgiana temple complex.

DRDO testfires land-attack version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

DRDO successfully test fired the land-attack version of 290 km strike range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off the coast of Odisha.

  • BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile operated by all the three services of the armed forces in different roles and different versions.
  • The BrahMos missile is a joint venture between India and Russia in which DRDO has been working hard to increase the indigenous content to cut down on the import costs.

Festival of ‘Dashain’ formally starts in Nepal

Dashain, also known as Bada Dashain, the greatest and the longest festival observed by Hindus in Nepal formally began with Ghatasthapana.

  • The first day of the festival which also marks the beginning of Navaratri started with the sowing of barley, wheat, maize and paddy seeds by performing Puja and keeping a “Ghada” or an earthen pot at a sacred place of the house or in temples as per Vedic tradition.

Public sector banks to function from 10 AM to 4 PM from Oct 1

The working hours of all government banks across Odisha has been changed and will now function from 10 AM to 4 PM from tomorrow onwards. The decision has been taken by State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC).

India U-18 defeated Bangladesh by 2-1 in the final of SAFF U-18 Championship 2019 to lift the title. The championship took place in Kathmandu, Nepal.

International Astronomical Union names asteroid after Pandit Jasraj

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named an asteroid, discovered in 2006, after Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj.

  • The asteroid, or more formally known as a minor planet, is located between Mars and Jupiter, and was discovered on November 11, 2006.

India Today Group VC Kalli Purie gets India’s Most Powerful Women in Media Award

India Today Group Vice-Chairperson Kalli Purie was conferred with the ‘India’s Most Powerful Women in Media’ award at the famed Confluence Excellence awards. Kalli Purie received the award at the British Parliament on September 27. The accolade comes just two weeks after she was honoured with the ‘Outstanding Media & Entertainment Award’ at the annual 21st Century Icon Awards in London.

Veteran actor Viju Khote passes away, best known as Kalia in Sholay

Veteran Hindi and Marathi actor Viju Khote, who feebly mouthed the iconic dialogue “Sardar, maine aapka namak khaya hai” as Kalia to Amjad Khan’s notorious Gabbar in cult classic “Sholay”, passed away. He was 77.

K P S Menon, independent India’s first foreign secretary, passes away

Former diplomat K P S Menon has passed away following age-related ailments. He was 90.
